What shapes a software project in Qatar
A company in Qatar often works for a small number of large clients, in the public sector or in energy, whose own procedures set the rules for their suppliers. Software has to fit those procedures as well as your own.
| Topic | What it means for your software | Decide early |
|---|---|---|
| Client requirements | Large clients specify how suppliers report progress, safety, cost and local content. Reports built by hand each month are a common reason to commission a system | Which client reports the system must produce, in which format |
| Documents and approvals | Tenders, variations, permits and invoices move through several approvals, often on paper or email, with Arabic and English versions | Which approvals move into the system first, and who signs each |
| Workforce records | A largely expatriate workforce means residence permits, IDs, medical cards and contracts with expiry dates, plus salary payment through the Wage Protection System | Whether the system tracks these itself or reads them from an HR product |
| Personal data | The Personal Data Privacy Protection Law applies to employee and customer data, with consent, purpose and access rights at its center. Entities in the Qatar Financial Centre follow that center's own rules | What personal data the system holds, and under which regime |
| Hosting | Major cloud providers operate regions in Qatar. Public sector clients and some regulated sectors expect data to stay in the country | Whether any client contract requires in-country hosting |
| Tax and invoicing | No VAT applied in Qatar when this page was reviewed. Invoices still need the details that the finance teams of the companies you work for require | The current tax position, confirmed by your adviser, and how change would be handled |
Workflows we build for companies in Qatar

- Client report generated
- Variations flagged
Facilities and maintenance
For companies that operate buildings and plants.
- Request or schedule creates a job
- Technician assigned

What we build
Project and contract systems
Software that follows a contract from tender to final account, with the approvals and documents each stage requires.
Reporting that clients accept
Reports generated in the layouts your clients specify, from data entered once in the field.
Bilingual documents
Screens for staff in English or Arabic, and documents produced in the language each recipient needs.
Document expiry tracking
Permits, IDs, certificates and insurance with owners and reminders, so nothing lapses unnoticed.
Integrations
Connections to your ERP, accounting and HR systems, so that finance and operations share the same figures. See system integration.
Hosting in Qatar
Deployment to a cloud region inside the country when contracts or data rules require it.
What we need from you
- The client reports and forms you produce today
- Time with site, commercial and finance staff
- Any contract clauses on data location and security
- Access to the systems that will connect
- A sponsor who can settle questions between departments
Ownership and licensing terms are defined in the project agreement.

Send us the report or process that costs your team the most time each month. We will reply with how we would approach it and what a first release could cover. Start a conversation or book a 30-minute call.
Our guide on how to replace business spreadsheets with software explains how to map what you have before you commission anything.
Common questions
Can the system produce the reports that our contracts require?
Yes. Client reports are usually the best place to start, because their layout and content are already fixed. We take the templates you submit today and generate them from data that staff enter once. When a client changes a template, the report definition is updated without rebuilding the system.
Does our data need to be hosted in Qatar?
It depends on your contracts and your sector. Government and some regulated clients require data to remain in the country, and their contracts usually say so. Major cloud providers have regions in Qatar, so the requirement can be met with ordinary cloud infrastructure. Read the data clauses in your client contracts before the hosting decision is made.
Do we need the system in Arabic?
Internal screens often work in English, since it is the common working language of mixed teams. Arabic is needed for documents going to government bodies and for some client and employee documents. We identify those first. A system can show English screens and still produce correct Arabic documents.
Should we buy an ERP module or build custom software?
Use the ERP for what it does well, which is finance, procurement and payroll. Build custom where your process is specific, for example bid management, site reporting or client-format reports, and connect it to the ERP. Our comparison of custom and off-the-shelf software sets out how to test the fit.
