AI Competitor Intelligence Agent Development
Their moves, on one page
An agent that keeps watch on the companies you compete with.
An agent that keeps watch on the companies you compete with. It monitors the public sources you approved, notices when a product page, a price page or a message changes, and reports the change with a link, a date and the previous version.
Competitor knowledge lives in anecdotes. Someone saw a new pricing page, a customer mentioned a feature, a salesperson heard a rumour. Nobody checks systematically, so the comparison slide in the sales deck is a year old. The information is public. What is missing is someone reading the same twenty pages every week and noticing what moved.
This page describes a workflow we propose to build as a custom project. It does not exist as software yet. It would reuse the source-bound research from our outreach preparation demonstration, where every fact keeps its link and date. Scheduled monitoring, change detection and the periodic report are not built.
From the First Signal to the Record
An example of one case, in 6 steps. The same steps play in the picture at the top of this page.
Sources set
Your team lists four competitors and the pages worth watching for each.
Weekly read
The agent reads each page and compares it with last week's stored version.
Change found
One competitor's pricing page now shows a new entry plan.
Change classified
It is recorded as a packaging change, with both versions and the date it appeared.
Card update proposed
The comparison slide's price row is flagged as outdated, with a suggested correction.
Report sent
Sales and product leads receive three changes this week, each with its link.
Six jobs it carries through
Source monitoring
Reads the public sources you approved.
- Websites, pricing and documentation pages
- Newsrooms and public filings
- Job listings and release notes
- On the schedule you set
Change detection
Notices what changed since last time.
- Compares each page with its stored version
- Ignores cosmetic edits
- Shows before and after
- Dates when the change appeared
Classification
Says what kind of change it is.
- Product or feature
- Price or packaging
- Positioning or messaging
- Hiring or organisation
Relevance filter
Keeps the report short.
- Uses the topics you care about
- Ranks by likely effect on your deals
- Holds minor changes for the monthly view
- Says what was left out
Battle-card updates
Proposes updates to your sales material.
- Which statements are now outdated
- The new fact with its link
- A suggested edit
- Held for the owner's approval
Period report
Summarises for the people who need it.
- What changed, by competitor
- Links and dates
- Open questions
- A note of sources that could not be read
How the Work Is Done Today
Knowledge by anecdote
What the team knows about a competitor depends on who heard what.
Comparison slides that aged
The deck still shows last year's features and prices.
Changes noticed by customers first
A buyer mentions the competitor's new plan before your team has seen it.
Sources nobody should use
Information obtained by pretending to be a customer.
Everything, every week
A long digest in which the one important change is line forty.
Opinion presented as fact
"They are struggling" with nothing behind it.
What We Need to Scope This
- The process as it runs today, in a few lines.
- The systems it touches, for example public sources, source history, priorities, sales material.
- Rough monthly volume, and who approves what.
The Systems Around It
The systems named here are the kind this agent works with. Which ones it connects to in your case is settled in the scope.
Public sources
- Competitor websites
- pricing pages
- documentation
- newsrooms
- job listings
Source history
- Stored versions for comparison
Priorities
- The competitors and topics you track
Sales material
- Battle cards and comparison slides
Distribution
- Email or chat for the weekly report
Product team
- Where product-relevant changes are sent
Public Sources, Permitted Access, and a Link for Every Fact
The agent reads what a competitor publishes for everyone, through access their site permits. It does not log in, pose as a customer, or use material that was not meant to be public.
Each change is reported as a fact with its link and date. Where the agent suggests what a change might mean, that is labelled as interpretation, and your team decides what to make of it.
- Public sources only
- No logins or pretence
- Before and after for every change
- Interpretation labelled
- Sales material changed by its owner
- Unreadable sources reported
Straight Answers
Is this legal and ethical?
The agent is limited to information a company publishes openly, read through access its site permits. It does not circumvent logins or misrepresent who is asking. Which sources are appropriate is a decision we would take with you, and with your legal adviser where needed.
How is this different from the prospect research agent?
Prospect research looks once at a company you want to sell to. This agent watches a fixed set of companies continuously and reports what changed. The first produces a brief, the second a running record.
How is this different from the social listening agent?
Listening reads what the public says in social conversation. This agent reads what competitors themselves publish: their pages, prices, documentation and announcements. Together they cover what is said by a competitor and about them.
What exists today?
Not as software yet. This page describes a proposed workflow. It would reuse the source-bound research from our outreach preparation demonstration, where every fact keeps its link and date. Scheduled monitoring, change detection and the periodic report are not built. A project starts by mapping your process, then proving the first steps on test data before anything touches a live system.

We will take a baseline now. In a month you will see exactly what each of them changed.
