Stripe Subscription Integration
What they paid foris what they can use
We integrate Stripe Billing into your product so plans, trials, upgrades, cancellations and failed payments change what each customer can use at the right moment, driven by verified webhooks.
Charging the card is the easy part, and the difficult part is making your product agree with Stripe about who has paid for what.
Subscriptions in Stripe, access in your product
- 01Access follows billing
- 02Webhooks verified
- 03Proration handled
Stripe subscription integration connects your application to Stripe Billing. Stripe holds the customers, prices, subscriptions and invoices and collects the money. Your product holds the accounts and decides what each may do. We build the link in both directions. The application creates and changes subscriptions through Stripe's API, and Stripe's webhooks tell the application when a payment succeeds, fails or a subscription ends.
It suits SaaS teams adding paid plans for the first time, or replacing billing code that grew by accident. The awkward cases define the quality. An upgrade in the middle of a period, a card that fails on renewal, a refund, a customer who cancels and returns, a team that adds seats. Each needs a rule that product, finance and support all understand.

What It Looks Like When It Ships
From Kickoff to Launch
Product, finance and support agree the plans, trials, proration, grace periods after a failed payment, refunds and exactly what a customer keeps when a subscription ends.
Products, prices, tax settings and the customer portal are configured in a Stripe sandbox first, and each price is mapped to the entitlements that your application enforces.
Checkout, plan changes and webhook handling are built, then driven through simulated time so that renewals, failed cards, retries and cancellations are all observed before any real customer meets them.
Live keys are enabled, any existing subscribers are migrated carefully and a scheduled job then confirms each day that access in the product matches billing in Stripe.

What buyers ask before they start
If yours is not here, ask us directly. The first conversation is free and useful whether or not we work together.
Book a callA Stripe account for your business with Billing enabled, which Stripe prices according to its published fees, and an administrator who can create restricted API keys and webhook endpoints. Development uses Stripe's test environment, so no real charges occur until launch. Availability of payment methods and tax features varies by country, which we check against Stripe's current documentation for the markets you sell in.
Because most billing events happen when no user is present. Renewals, failed cards, disputes and bank confirmations occur inside Stripe, and a webhook is how your product learns of them. If the application only updated access when a customer clicked something, it would drift from reality. We verify each event's signature, process it once and reconcile periodically in case any was missed.
According to rules you choose, which Stripe then applies. A common pattern charges the difference immediately on upgrade and applies a downgrade at the next renewal, with no refund. Stripe can calculate proration for partial periods. We implement the policy you decide, show the customer the exact amount before they confirm and make sure access changes at the same moment the billing does.
Stripe retries the charge on a schedule and can email the customer to update their card. During that time your product applies the grace period you defined, perhaps full access with a warning. If recovery fails, the subscription is marked unpaid or cancelled and access is reduced accordingly. Every step is driven by events from Stripe, and support can see where each account stands.
Start with the hosted ones in most cases. Stripe's checkout and customer portal handle card entry, authentication, tax display and invoices, and they keep card data away from your servers, which limits your security obligations. A custom interface built with Stripe's embedded components is worthwhile when billing must sit deep inside your product. We recommend the simplest option that meets the design.
